German chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla / M. recutita) flower heads are one of the most traded herbal-tea materials in Europe (Ph. Eur.: Matricariae flos). Whole flowers and tea-bag cut (fines) are separate grades. Because chamomile can be contaminated by co-harvested weeds, buyers of tea grades ask for pyrrolizidine-alkaloid results (maximum levels in Regulation (EU) 2023/915) in addition to pesticide residues.
