Sea buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides) is one of the few botanicals where formulators routinely specify two distinct oils from the same fruit. Pulp oil — pressed from the orange flesh and skin — is the carotenoid-loaded, omega-7-rich (palmitoleic acid) input that gives the deep saffron colour used in skin-care formulations. Seed oil is paler, carries the omega-3 alpha-linolenic and omega-6 linoleic fraction, and behaves more like a conventional cosmetic carrier.
Romania is a meaningful EU-side producer of Hippophae rhamnoides, with established plantations across Moldavia and the southern Carpathian foothills supplying both the food-and-beverage and the cosmetic-and-nutraceutical channels. TANDOR looks for cold-pressed pulp oil and CO2-extracted or cold-pressed seed oil from Romanian processors; organic or COSMOS material only from suppliers who hold that certificate. Suppliers are asked for a fatty-acid profile by GC, carotenoid quantification for pulp oil (total carotenoids and beta-carotene), peroxide and acid values, heavy metals against EU limits, and microbiology. Pesticide and solvent-residue documentation is provided per lot.
